Who you’ll work with

We know this system.

We are Portuguese and we know the portals, the deadlines, the language and the people on the other side of the phone. We built Portugalize because the bar for service in this industry was low and we wanted to raise it.

  • Every message goes to the person managing your case, not to an assistant or a shared inbox.
  • We handle the process, not just the advice, from the first document to the final approval.

What we check

Visa and tax, checked together.

The checker asks about your passport, where your income comes from, who is moving with you and when. It matches those against some of the visa thresholds and the tax regimes below.

D7 Visa

The passive income route, for pensions, rent, dividends or interest. The test is whether the money keeps arriving if you stop working, and it starts at €920 a month, more with a spouse or children.

D8 Visa

The work income route, for salary, freelancing or your own business. Remote work does not make income passive, which is where most applications go to the wrong visa, and it starts at €3,680 a month.

EU citizens

No visa needed to move, but the tax side still catches people out: residency, IFICI eligibility and the registration deadline. The checker covers those too.

IFICI (NHR 2.0)

Portugal's tax regime for new residents, giving you a 20% flat rate on qualifying Portuguese income and exemption on most foreign income for 10 years.

Freelancer benefits

If you work for yourself, the simplified regime taxes only part of what you invoice and the first year carries a social security exemption.

IRS Jovem

The tax break for younger earners, which cuts your rate on employment and self-employment income for ten years.

Why Portugalize

One firm for the whole move.

Both sides are handled here because one decision changes the other.

Visa + Tax

One coordinated strategy

The date you become resident sets the deadline to register for IFICI.

What our clients say

Henrique is fantastic and I would give him 10 stars if possible. He helped us from beginning to end in getting our D7 Visas (we were just approved last week!). He was always available and helpful. I have recommended him to several others. If you are looking for advice and assistance with the Visa process to Portugal please use Portugalize. Prices were very fair too!

I am working in immigration about 7 years and have worked with several lawyers — Manuel and Henrique are the most professional and responsible. Clear thinking, rigorous attitude, high efficiency.

Shanshan H.

Portugalize helped both my wife and I with our move to Portugal. Even after providing all services we requested, Henrique went over and above and didn't charge for extra information along the way. Whether it's NIF, NISS, visa help or setting up a business — not sure there is a better service out there.

Renato R.

Moved to Portugal last year and working with Manuel made the process so much smoother and stress-free. I had the added complication of working remotely for a UK-based company, but Manuel was all over it and knew the finer detail to make it all straightforward. He even had a call together with my colleagues to ensure we'd ticked the relevant boxes. Couldn't recommend the Portugalize team enough!

David K.

I highly recommend Portugalize, as I was fortunate enough to find them to assist me with my immigration process and was very satisfied with their work. I needed help with various paperwork, and they handled it quickly and efficiently. I would hire them again without hesitation.

Paula P.

Moving to Portugal can be complex, but thanks to Portugalize, it was easy to transfer my freelance activities and start a new page of my career in this sunny and warm country.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes. It takes about two minutes and gives you a specific verdict for your situation, not generic relocation advice. Booking the intro call afterwards is free too.

The D7 is for passive income (pensions, dividends, rental income). The D8 is for active remote work (freelancing, employment, online business). The checker asks about your income and tells you which one fits.

IFICI is Portugal's tax incentive programme for new residents, commonly known as NHR 2.0. It offers a 20% flat tax rate on qualifying Portuguese employment income and 0% tax on most foreign income (dividends, capital gains, interest, rental income) for 10 years.

No. The original NHR scheme closed to new applicants. IFICI is the current regime. People call it NHR 2.0 because the structure is very similar, but IFICI has different eligibility requirements and broader foreign income exemptions.

IFICI is a tax regime, not an immigration permit. They are separate processes. But if you are not an EU citizen, you will need legal residency in Portugal (such as a D7 or D8 visa) to live here and benefit from IFICI. We handle both immigration and tax, so we can align the two from the start.

At least €920 per month in passive income for the D7, or €3,680 per month earned from outside Portugal for the D8. Thresholds increase if you apply with a spouse or dependent children. The checker asks about your income bracket and factors it in.

Visas typically take 2 to 4 months from application to visa, depending on your consulate. The IFICI setup typically takes 4 to 8 weeks once documents are submitted, and the benefit applies retrospectively.

Visa packs are €2,500 per individual. The IFICI pack is €3,000, company setup included. Essentials are priced individually: NIF €100, bank account €325, NISS €150. Fixed prices, no hidden fees, and the intro call is free.

You see your route and can book a free 15-minute intro call directly in the flow. We look at your situation, explain your options and give you a clear next step. No obligation.
